The Kingdom of Eswatini has multiple Montessori preschools and one Montessori primary school. Therefore, Eswatini needs a Montessori high school.
Montessori education is unlike any other - we follow inquiry based learning.
Students following an inquiry based learning syllabus are driven by individuality and natural curiosity, helping develop responsibility and self-motivation. By doing this they acquire core life skills that are hugely valuable in a changing world.
This education system was originally developed by Maria Montessori at the start of the 20th century. She believed that education was necessary for a peaceful world - and that this was achievable with a pedagogy that encouraged individual actualization. She developed a system where the student's natural curiosity is the driving force. Her motto was 'follow the child'. At Lilima we have fused the Montessori principles with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. This fusion blends motivation and academic rigour.
The school's mentor is Dr Paul Epstein, a world authority on Montessori adolescent programmes. The fulltime teachers have high school Montessori qualifications from CGMS and undergo IB professional development on a continual basis.
Lilima Montessori High is registered as a not for profit NGO in Eswatini. The school opened in January 2017 with 22 students in temporary premises in Mbabane, and is now in its fourth year.
Construction of architect designed buildings and facilities will start in 2020. The school will move to the new campus in 2021. A commitment has been made to offer annual scholarships to children from the Eswatini community.
